Our Governance structures

JMSU is a democratically led charity and decisions within the Union are made in a number of committees by students, officers and trustees.

Our democratic committees directly involve our student members in decision making with Student Members Meeting being the highest body. Our governance committees, led by trustees, ensure the legal and financial compliance of the Union, as well as leading on significant decisions regarding strategy and operations.

Beneath it are five labelled sub-committees: Finance, Audit & Risk; Governance & Policy; HR & Remuneration; Elections & Democracy; and Appointments. Each has a brief description of its specific oversight responsibilities.

Student Voice Structures

Student Members’ Meeting

This is an annual meeting open to our members. It’s where you can hear what JMSU’s working on, vote on important issues, and bring forward your own ideas.

Student Forum

This is a termly meeting where students discuss policies, raise issues, and influence the Union’s priorities. It’s a great space to get your voice heard.

Referenda

If something needs a Union-wide decision, it can go to a student vote. These are called referenda.
