Three individuals stand together at a formal event. The person in the centre holds a transparent award etched with “JMSU.” They wear a black sleeveless dress, flanked by one person in a black dress on the left and another in a suit and tie on the right. All are smiling, and the setting suggests a celebratory award presentation.

What’s the Difference?

Think of Student Voice & Governance as the decision-making hub — where students shape policy, set priorities, and hold the union to account. This includes formal meetings like the Annual Student Members Meeting, the Student Forum, and Referenda, where your voice can directly influence the direction of JMSU.

Student Life & Community Forums, on the other hand, are the spaces for conversation and collaboration. These forums and assemblies bring students together to share ideas, tackle issues, and work on projects — from wellbeing and sustainability to sports, societies, and equity. They’re about connecting with others, building community, and creating change from the ground up.
