Meet the Staff Team

The JMSU Staff Team is the engine behind the day-to-day running of the Students' Union. Working closely with elected student officers and the wider student community, the team brings expertise, consistency, and operational support to everything we do.

From delivering events and campaigns to providing essential student services and behind-the-scenes administration, our staff ensure that JMSU remains impactful, inclusive, and student-focused. Together, we help bring the Union’s mission to life—supporting all LJMU students to belong, be heard, and thrive.

What does SLT do?

The team is led by our Chief Executive, Paul Chapman, and forms the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). This group is responsible for delivering the Union’s strategic plan, managing its day-to-day operations, and ensuring the organisation is financially sustainable, student-focused, and impactful. Working closely with elected officers, the SLT supports every department—ranging from student representation to events, commercial services, and wellbeing—to ensure the Union meets the evolving needs of students and creates a vibrant, inclusive university experience.

What does Events & Marketing do?

The Marketing and Events Department is the creative engine behind the Students’ Union’s biggest moments and everyday engagement. From Welcome Week to themed club nights, cultural celebrations, and awareness campaigns, this team plans and delivers events that help students make memories, build community, and have fun. They also manage all Union communications—whether that’s through social media, digital screens, or printed materials—to ensure students are informed, inspired, and heard. Whether you're attending an event, spotting a campaign around campus, or browsing the SU website, this department is working behind the scenes to make your experience vibrant and inclusive.

The Student Voice Department exists to ensure that students are at the heart of decision-making at every level of university life. Student Advice provides free, confidential, and independent support to help you navigate university issues, and academic challenges.

Student Advice Department is your go-to place for free, confidential, and independent support during your time at university. Whether you're facing university issues like academic appeals, misconduct allegations, or personal circumstances affecting your studies, our trained advisor is here to guide you through the process clearly and compassionately.

You can book an appointment through our website to speak directly with an advisor, or access resources on a range of topics—including how to submit a "fit to attempt" revocation, examples of academic misconduct such as the unauthorised use of AI tools like ChatGPT, and clarification on processes like requesting extensions (note: these don’t usually apply to exams). If you’re unsure where to start, our team can help point you in the right direction—whether that’s internal university support or an external service partner.
