Your Volunteering Journey

Step in. Give back. Transform your journey.

At JMSU, volunteering is more than just spare time. It is an opportunity to grow, to connect, and to create lasting change. Whether you are supporting local communities, helping fellow students, or building skills for your future, every hour you give makes a difference. This is where your journey begins, where you discover your potential, make an impact, and shape the experience you will carry beyond university. Volunteering does not just change the lives of others, it changes yours too.

Volunteering at JMSU

Volunteering shaped who we are today – and it can do the same for you.

Hi, we’re Miles, Josh, Etieene and Erin, your JMSU Officer Team. Back when we were students at LJMU, each of us chose to get involved in volunteering – and looking back, it’s one of the best decisions we ever made. It gave us confidence, helped us discover our strengths, and introduced us to people and opportunities that shaped our journeys. Those experiences are a huge part of why we’re here now, representing you as Officers.

Why We Believe in Volunteering

Through volunteering, we learned how to collaborate, lead, and step up when it mattered most. We built skills we never imagined we’d need, but now use every single day in our roles – whether that’s listening to students, campaigning for change, or making big decisions on your behalf. More than anything, volunteering made us feel part of something bigger than ourselves – a community where every contribution counts.

Our Call to You

We’d encourage you to take that first step and get involved. No matter how much time you can give, you’ll grow, you’ll make a difference, and you’ll create memories that will stay with you long after your degree. Trust us – it’s worth it.

If you’re not sure where to begin, don’t worry. Just scroll down and you’ll find an easy step-by-step guide to help you get started.

Why Volunteer?

Stand Out to Employers

Employers value volunteering on a CV, with research showing candidates receive 45% more interview callbacks (ResearchGate).

Develop Essential Skills

Leaders, communicators, decision makers — graduate employers seek these qualities, and volunteering helps build them (Institute for Employment Studies).

Boost Confidence & Wellbeing

Volunteering nurtures personal growth and purpose and helps you network, reflect, and thrive.
