Our Union Support Staff are integral to everything we do. You will be the face of JMSU, working on reception in the Student Life Building and across campus, supporting events and activities, and helping students understand who we are and what we offer.
We are a Real Living Wage employer, paying £13.45 per hour, and shifts are designed to fit around your studies.

What you will be doing
Our Support Staff are the face of JMSU, welcoming students, staff and visitors at the Student Life Building and across campus, supporting events, and helping fellow students find what they need.
Reception & events support
Be the face of JMSU, welcoming everyone through the doors, helping students understand what the union offers, and supporting cross campus events. One shift per week on reception.
Customer service Events Campus-wide
Content & engagement support
Support our Content & Engagement Team with content creation, great for students studying media, comms, journalism or marketing. Hours are flexible and in addition to reception shifts.

FAQs
Got questions?
Do I need to be an LJMU student to apply?
Yes! you must be enrolled at Liverpool John Moores University in 2026/2027 to be eligible.
Will working for JMSU affect my student finance?
Part time earnings do not normally affect your student loan, but your specific circumstances may vary. Check at gov.uk/student-finance.
Can international students apply?
If your visa permits part time work in the UK you are welcome to apply. Check your conditions and see our right to work guidance.
How many hours will I work each week?
Typically one reception shift per week during term time (5 hours). Additional hours are available through events. Content and engagement hours are flexible and on top of reception shifts.
What training and support will I receive?
All new student staff attend a full induction on 7 September 2026, plus ongoing learning and development and 24hr wellbeing support throughout the year.
What do the content and engagement roles involve?
Supporting content creation with our Content & Engagement Team, suited to students studying media, comms, journalism or marketing. Indicate your interest on the application form.
Do I need to be available on the interview and induction dates?
Yes! These are a requirement of the role. Interviews: 5th, 6th or 7th August 2026. Induction: Monday 7 September 2026. Please do not apply if you cannot attend.
