Health & Safety

While we hope that the year runs smoothly, there's always the chance that an accident or incident will occur, which is why we want to make sure that every activity is prepared for any eventuality.

At the time of the accident or incident please report it to the appropriate officials e.g. sports venue staff, event organisers, etc. Please report the accident/incident to the JMSU within 24 hours or as soon as is practicable by filling in an online form or handing in a paper copy.

Please follow the Emergency Procedures if serious and follow the hospitalisation procedure if a student goes to the hospital.

For all non-regular activities and events that are not covered by your annual risk assessment (emailed by JMSU), you will need to complete a one-off risk assessment.

The one-off risk assessment template should be used for any events with activities that are not covered in your annual assessment.

Email completed risk assessments to Sports or Societies Co-Ordinator. Please note that you may be asked to re-do them if they are not suitable for your event or filled out properly.

First Aid Courses

JMSU runs first aid courses throughout the year so that your committee members can become qualified first aiders. These cost £15 per person, which will be returned if the committee member attends. Information about first aid courses will be communicated via student group accounts. Please follow the instructions noted in the email to book your place!

First Aid Kits

Each student group/team will be provided with a first aid kit at the start of the season. First aid kits will be refreshed and signed out at the start of each year, for you to keep for the year and replenish as items are used. These need to be handed back to the JMSU at the end of the year in the same condition as they were given out. The first aid kit will include Accident Report Forms and First Aid Procedure and Inventory.

All coaches and instructors must register with JMSU before any instruction of activity. Contact the Sports Co-Ordinator for more information.
