Running an Event

Find out all you need to know about running events below!

The external speakers' policy is a Students’ Union Policy that means that any external speaker that comes to speak to student groups on/off/virtual must first be approved. ‘External speaker’ is any individual or organisation who is not a student or staff member at LJMU. If someone is not a student or staff member at LJMU and has a platform to speak to any LJMU student they are classed as an External Speaker.

External Speaker form must be submitted a minimum of 4 weeks in advance of the date of the event. Forms arriving after this time will not be approved.

Events are a great way for student groups to publicise themselves, get new members, raise money, and have a good time as a group.

All student-run events need to be authorised by JMSU. To do this just follow these simple steps as outlined in the Events Handbook.

At JMSU we are here to support you to do more with your sports and societies. The aim of our guidance is to set out how we can help you to make sure all provision of food at events is safe and compliant with legislation.

Due to health and safety issues, primarily relating to allergens, NO homemade food & drink products should be offered as part of your fundraising activities unless a student has a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate. Bake-sales must be comprised of store-bought goods where the contents of items sold can be checked by the person buying them. This applies to both on-campus and off-campus activities.
