LiverpoolSU History Project
This project has been designed to explore the rich history of LiverpoolSU and present it to past and present students and staff and anybody with an interest in not just student unions but successful student unions.
The project offers not only information online, from a tour beginning in the 1930s to today, alongside case studies and information of the high and low points of LiverpoolSU through the last 85 years, it also offers easy to view videos. These videos show the stories of former staff and sabbatical officer’s as well as offering a guided tour through the buildings of LiverpoolSU and offering an insight into not only the past but also helping anyone imagine what life connected to LiverpoolSU was like and could be like.
Alongside the online information and the videos, an archive including all of the research that has taken place for this project has also been built. This archive is looked after by LiverpoolSU but is accessible and includes over 1000 images, minutes from LiverpoolSU meetings and a number of different examples of media all important to the History of LiverpoolSU. The web content is very simple to view and offers excellent content about the History of LiverpoolSU but also the idea of what life would have been like for students in the city and for students nationwide. The videos are also very simple to view and offer a different view on the history of LiverpoolSU. Both areas of the project equally acknowledge the hard work of everyone who has been and currently is associated with LiverpoolSU and show how it is easily one of the most accomplished student unions in the country today. The project was completed with help from a number of different people, from assistance from the National Union of Students (NUS), to help from former staff and sabbatical officers, to of course current staff at LiverpoolSU.
Two students completed the project over the summer of 2015. The first is Alex Stevenson who has just completed a degree course in Media Professional studies at Liverpool John Moore’s University. Alex’s part in the project was the video side of the work and after viewing the videos you will see the excellent contribution he has offered in making this project successful. The second student is Joe Phelan, Joe while completing the project has just completed his second year of studies at Liverpool John Moore’s University studying History. Joe worked on building the history of LiverpoolSU and built the archive and the content used online for anyone to view. Both students alongside all the help they have received come to understand the importance of the history of LiverpoolSU. It is not only a rich history but it is a history to be very proud of and now anybody can understand why everyone involved with LiverpoolSU is exceptionally proud to be making history in the present day and building on all the hard work in the past.
Everyone at LiverpoolSU hopes you enjoy and appreciate everything this history project can show you about our fantastic history.
