LiverpoolSU has an excellent history, an outstanding history of all student unions nationwide. This history spans nearly 100 years and it is hard to focus on just a few stories as every single contribution and every single story of everybody involved matters. However these 5 case studies offer a side of every aspect of what makes LiverpoolSU so special. The first case study shows how LiverpoolSU can protest and do what they can in order to get students the best possible platform to succeed, the story is of an occupation at Walton house in 1974 that was a landmark moment for LiverpoolSU.
The next case study is about the toughest of times for not just LiverpoolSU but student unions up and down the country. Between 1979 and 1987 the conservative government did not exactly make life easy for students and this is a story of how LiverpoolSU dealt with these problems. The third case study is a simple overview about landmark music events that took place at the Haigh Building which was the base of LiverpoolSU for so long. Great bands such as the stone roses and blur attended and this study just gives you an insight into the great moments that could have been offered in the late 1980s and early 1990s to students in Liverpool. The fourth case study is a look at what university life could have been like if you attended university in the first term of 1998. The university life you could have enjoyed is built from the scream newsletter that was distributed around Liverpool John Moore’s campus. The final case study is a look at the great work LiverpoolSU has achieved in equality. The focus is on a former sabbatical officer Sara Edwards and her work on equality over a 2 year spell.
