During all the decades in the build up to the formation of Liverpool John Moore’s, the 4 colleges and then the polytechnic faced a number of different problems and challenges. We start in the 1930s and look at the earliest awareness of student unions in Liverpool and then look at how the Second World War impacted student life. The 1950’s are when our student union started to take shape. The 60’s show all the hard work that took place in forming the polytechnic. Then you enter the turbulent 70s and how without a strong and organised student union the polytechnic may never have survived and then we look at the 1980s. These stories are not only about the union but about all the difficulties the students faced and how having a strong union with clear goals was essential in keeping the university on track.
