Muay Thai, known as the “Art of Eight Limbs,” is a powerful and disciplined combat sport from Thailand that uses punches, kicks, elbows, and knees. It’s a full-body workout that builds strength, sharpens technique, and pushes both your physical and mental limits. Whether you're looking to learn self-defence, boost your fitness, or test yourself in the ring, Muay Thai is intense, empowering, and incredibly rewarding.
LJMU’s Muay Thai Club is open to everyone — from total beginners to experienced fighters. You don’t need any prior martial arts experience to get started — just bring energy, focus, and a willingness to learn. We train regularly with experienced instructors, covering technique, conditioning, and controlled sparring. Outside of training, we’re a close-knit and friendly community with plenty of socials, events, and support for everyone’s journey. Come and get involved — Muay Thai isn’t just a sport, it’s a mindset.

Our sessions offer a full-body workout that improves fitness, strength, flexibility, and self-confidence. Whether you're looking to explore a new sport, build self-defence skills, or find a fun and engaging alternative to cardio, our friendly and supportive environment has something for everyone.
We train at Masda Gym, located on Saint Anne Street, Liverpool, L3 3DY. Our sessions run every Tuesday and Thursday from 19:30 to 20:30 and are led by experienced professional coaches. You only need basic gym wear and a bottle of water to get started. While there’s no requirement to bring equipment, members who own gloves, hand wraps, shin guards, or a gum shield are welcome to use them. Sparring is held on a separate day and is entirely optional. Glove size for sparring depends on your weight and will be discussed during training if needed. Annual membership costs £35 and grants full access to training and club events.
Our club was founded by PJ, a Thai student passionate about sharing both Muay Thai and Thai culture. For PJ, starting this club is about more than just sport—it’s about creating a space where students can grow together, support each other, and enjoy a truly unique university experience. Beginners and women are especially encouraged to join, as Muay Thai is far less intimidating than it may seem and caters to all goals, whether it's getting fit, having fun, or competing. For those with experience, we’ll work to provide opportunities to compete, and if there’s enough interest, we hope to organise a training trip to Thailand in the future. You’ll be guided every step of the way by PJ and a dedicated committee ready to make your Muay Thai journey one to remember.
Each sports club is led by a student committee responsible for running the club, organising activities, and representing members. The committee is chaired by the Club Captain, with support from other elected roles.
