This is your creative sanctuary at LJMU. This is a space where pens, pixels, and people come
together. Whether you're here to unwind through sketching, designing digitally or simply vibe with others who love visual storytelling, this society offers a low-pressure, yet hands-on outlet for creative exploration beyond the lecture theatre.
The Graphic Design and Illustration Society is a student-led space created for anyone with a love of visual creativity, whether you're studying the subject formally or just want to dip your toe into the world of design and illustration. Formed by a group of passionate students on the Graphic Design and Illustration course, our society is all about community, expression, and fun. There’s no pressure to perform or produce - it’s just about enjoying what we do together. From chill drawing sessions, practical workshops, to movie nights and gallery visits, we offer a mix of events that help members unwind, experiment, and socialise.
We aim to meet regularly throughout the term with a relaxed and varied schedule. Sessions include sketching socials, collaborative zine-making, casual pub meetups, exhibition outings, and themed creative nights. The society is intentionally informal, so there’s no need to worry about missing a week, just come as you are and get involved however feels right for you. Keep your eye on our Instagram for weekly updates on what’s coming up next. We’re always open to new ideas too, so if you’ve got a session idea in mind, let us know on our Instagram or in person at the studio!
We meet up every Tuesday at 6pm at the John Lennon Art and Design Building at floor 1, studio 2.
Because creativity thrives in community. Whether you're deep into your degree or just want to explore art in a way that’s pressure-free, this society gives you a space to experiment and have fun without the deadlines. You’ll meet likeminded people who understand the joy of creating, no matter the medium. It’s a chance to make new friends, discover fresh inspiration, and create things just for the love of it. Plus, you’ll be part of a supportive, welcoming circle of creatives.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
