This is your creative sanctuary at LJMU — a space where pens, pixels, and people come
together. Whether you're here to unwind through sketching, dive into design inspiration, or simply vibe with others who love visual storytelling, this society offers a low-pressure, high-energy outlet for creative exploration beyond the classroom.
The Graphic Design and Illustration Society is a student-led space created for anyone with a love of visual creativity — whether you're studying the subject formally or just want to dip your toe into the world of design and illustration. Formed by a group of passionate students on the Graphic Design and Illustration course, our society is all about community, expression, and fun. There’s no pressure to perform or produce — it’s just about enjoying what we do together. From chill drawing sessions and group sketchbook challenges, to movie nights, gallery visits and hands-on workshops, we offer a mix of events that help members unwind, experiment, and connect. Think of us as a creative studio-meets-social club — with a bit of chaos and colour thrown in.
We aim to meet regularly throughout the term with a relaxed and varied schedule. Sessions include sketching socials, collaborative zine-making, casual pub meetups, exhibition outings, and themed creative nights. The society is intentionally informal, so there’s no need to worry about missing a week or bringing a finished portfolio — just come as you are and get involved however feels right for you. Keep your eye on our Instagram and society page for weekly updates on what’s coming up next. We’re always open to new ideas too, so if you’ve got something creative in mind, this is the space to bring it to life.
Because creativity thrives in community. Whether you're deep into your degree or just want to explore art in a way that’s pressure-free, this society gives you a space to experiment and have fun without the deadlines. You’ll meet likeminded people who understand the joy of doodling during lectures, the satisfaction of a perfectly chosen colour palette, and the need to escape a screen now and then. It’s a chance to make new friends, discover fresh inspiration, and create things just for the love of it. Plus, you’ll be part of a supportive, welcoming circle of creatives who are here to hype you up, challenge your ideas, and celebrate your wins. Come sketch, sip, scroll and socialise with us — it’s all about making cool stuff and good memories.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
