Gaelic Football is a dynamic and fast-moving team sport that combines elements of soccer, rugby, and basketball. Played with 15 players on each side, the goal is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the opponent’s net or between the posts above it. It’s a game full of skill, stamina, and physicality, with plenty of running, catching, and quick decision-making.
Our Women's Gaelic Football team welcomes players at every level — whether you’re new to the game or have experience from back home. It’s an amazing way to boost your fitness, develop new skills, and be part of a passionate, supportive group. We train regularly, compete in student leagues and tournaments, and enjoy plenty of social events off the pitch. Come join us — it’s more than just a sport, it’s a community.

LJMU Ladies Gaelic Football is all about community, competition, and having a good time while doing something different. Gaelic Football is a fast, physical and exciting game that’s played with two teams of 15 on a grass pitch. You can score by kicking or punching the ball through the goal (worth three points) or over the posts (worth one). It might sound intense, but don’t worry—most of our players had never picked up a Gaelic ball before joining! Whether you’re a complete beginner or you’ve grown up around the game, this is a team where you’ll feel welcome from the first session.
We train every Monday and Thursday, keeping things consistent and focused during the week. Matches take place on Saturdays or Sundays depending on the fixture, and we make time for socials every other week to catch up, relax, and have some fun as a team. It’s the perfect balance of sport and social life—without the pressure.
You don’t need any experience to get started—just a good attitude and a willingness to get involved. We train hard and play to a good standard, but the real heart of the team is the friendships that come with it. So many of our players have found their closest friends through Gaelic, and every season brings a new group of people together. If you’re looking for a sport that’s a little different, with a team that feels more like a family, this is where you’ll find it. Whether you want to try something new, stay active, or just meet some brilliant people, LJMU Ladies Gaelic Football is ready to welcome you.
Each sports club is led by a student committee responsible for running the club, organising activities, and representing members. The committee is chaired by the Club Captain, with support from other elected roles.
