38% of respondents to a Student Minds survey felt that being at university in Autumn term had a negative impact on their mental health and wellbeing, and an overwhelming 52% of respondents said they often felt lonely or isolated during Autumn term. This is why it is imperative to us, as your Students' Union, to make sure your voices are heard, your mental health is prioritised, and that we help you get the support you need during your time at LJMU.

Our Student Officers are working closely with JMSU, LJMU and the wider community to ensure that you are being represented, you are engaged with during difficult times and to make sure you are being supported as much as possible. Their manifestos focus on better representation for students to feel engaged and supported, to improve equality, inclusion and diversity in the university and to ensure accessibility to all students. You can check out their profiles and manifestos today to see what they’re working on.

Resources

The University has services that you can contact at any time if you are struggling with your mental health. You can visit Student Advice and Wellbeing at the Student Life Building, and their trained advisors will help with any questions you have. You can also email, phone or book an appointment with them at a time that suits you, best fitted to be as comfortable as possible for you to approach them. Check out their support page today.

You can book counselling sessions with them that will provide ongoing support for you when you need it. JMSU also have an advice team that allows confidentiality and impartial advice from the university. You can book an appointment with our advisors or email them with any queries you wish to share. If you need urgent care, please visit the university’s crisis page.

Mental Health Society

We have a student-led society specifically tackling mental health stigma and encourages anyone to join. They are an inclusive and support system of students that provide a safe space for students. You can visit them at our World Mental Health Day event or contact them online.

Events

We will be hosting 5 Ways to Wellbeing event for World Mental Health Day inspired by the NHS guide to Mental Health and Wellbeing. Join in for a student lunch, a rowing challenge with prizes to win, craft sessions along with advice and support stalls from JMSU, LJMU and Mental Health Society. We we will also be hosting a Porridge Party event to encourage students to find out more about Mary’s Meals, a local charity which serves vital food portions to classrooms across Zambia and Zimbabwe.
