Wow! What a busy 14 days the team at the SU has had throughout freshers. We wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the events which have been hosted, not only by JMSU but also by our various sports teams and societies. We hope everyone has had a fantastic couple of weeks and hopefully, you are starting to feel settled whether you are returning to LJMU or are joining the University for the first time.

Here are our top stats to share with you.

Our flagship event, Freshers fair, which took place for the first time at Liverpool Exhibition Centre, grew again this year with around 7500 students attending - setting a record for attendance. The event on the day was brilliant; it was great to see all our different student groups together, volunteering and commercial share their opportunities and LJMU holding invaluable stalls to share with students. As expected, the iconic free slice of pizza from Dominos on entry was a warm welcome for student queuing, but no fair is complete without fair rides. The addition of our huge Ferris Wheel was amazing to see the event from a bird's eye view… provided you didn’t have a fear of heights!

Aside from the freshers Fair, we ran over 30 other events, attended by around 3,700 students. The events ranged from open-air cinemas, craft sessions, sports inductions and Raveminton which all took place at various buildings throughout campus. You can check out all the photography from our events on our Facebook page.

Where there are JMSU Freshers events you will always find a few freebies. Across September, we gave out over 12,500 gifts and freebies to students. Mainly in the form of our lovely Freshers bags, but there were numerous opportunities for students to enter competitions and win some amazing prizes – from amazon vouchers to M&S Bank Arena concert tickets.

This year we have also seen more students than ever getting involved in student groups, so far 3520 people have taken out society memberships, 700 people have declared interest in sports with hundreds going to sports trials next week, 14 brand new student groups have been created. Click the link to explore our sports and societies Or even start up your own club.

We also had over 70 new student community members have been appointed, another record breaker! Interested in becoming a paid community member yourself? This is an amazing experience for students to meet like-minded people and pop something on their CV. You can apply to be a leader today!

Freshers is just the beginning, you can join us at one of our events all year round, get involved with our student groups and make the most of being a part of JMSU!
