Tennis is a dynamic and engaging sport that combines agility, strategy, and endurance.
Whether you’re rallying with friends, competing in matches, or working on your serve, tennis offers a fantastic full-body workout and a chance to sharpen your mental focus. It’s a game for all ages and skill levels, providing fun and challenge every time you step on the court.
Our Tennis Club welcomes players of all abilities — from complete beginners picking up a racket for the first time to seasoned players chasing their next victory. We organise regular coaching sessions, social matches, and competitive leagues to help you develop your skills and enjoy the game in a friendly environment. More than just a sport, we’re a supportive community united by a love of tennis. Grab your racket — it’s more than tennis, it’s a way of life.

LJMU Tennis is an LTA award-winning club based at the Liverpool Tennis Centre, home to six indoor and six outdoor acrylic courts. We welcome players of all levels, offering an inclusive environment for everyone at John Moores University to enjoy tennis. Our members have access to weekly coaching sessions tailored for beginners, improvers, and performance-level players, all led by LTA-qualified coaches. Competitive opportunities include participation in BUCS team leagues and interclub competitions such as club championships and ladder leagues, with results counting toward your official LTA rating. Alongside serious competition, we also host fun events like Mixed Doubles, Touch tennis, and even three-legged tennis, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Staff members are also encouraged to join, with structured coaching and match play sessions available.
Our sessions take place at Liverpool Tennis Centre every week. Beginner and Match Play sessions are held on Fridays, while team training for competitive players happens on Tuesday evenings from 8 to 10. Beyond playing, we also offer opportunities to develop as a coach, with subsidised LTA coaching qualifications that can help you find part-time work during university or support your career after graduation. LJMU Tennis is more than just a sports club—it’s a community. We round off each term with social events, including our annual Christmas and end-of-year meals, and often partner with other societies for joint socials to keep the fun going off the court.
If you're looking for a club that combines competitive sport with a lively social scene, LJMU Tennis is the place to be. Whether you're an experienced player or picking up a racket for the first time, we cater to all standards and welcome everyone into our community. Even if tennis isn’t your main focus, you’ll still enjoy some of the best social events the university has to offer. For new members, we ensure you feel at home from day one by pairing each fresher with a dedicated "fresher mum or dad" who’ll help integrate you into the team. At LJMU Tennis, you’ll find more than just a club—you’ll find your people.
