The Gospel Choir Society is a powerful collective of voices, culture, and joy — a place where music and unity come together. It's not just about singing; it's about expressing yourself, building confidence, and finding community through the spirit of gospel. Whether you're experienced or just starting out, this is a space to lift your voice and your soul.
The LJMU Gospel Choir Society is a vibrant and welcoming group that celebrates unity through music. We're more than just a choir — we are a family of passionate, multi-cultural individuals who come together each week to uplift, inspire, and express joy through gospel singing. You don’t need to be a professional singer or know how to read music; all we ask is that you bring your energy, an open heart, and your unique voice. Gospel music is a powerful tool for self-expression, confidence-building, and emotional release — rooted in storytelling, spirituality, and soul. While we draw inspiration from gospel traditions, we also embrace modern arrangements, harmonies, and rhythms that reflect the diverse voices of our group. We laugh, we sing, we grow — together.
We rehearse every Monday evening from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Student Life Building, Copperas Hill, Liverpool, L3 5GE. These weekly sessions are open to all students, no audition required — just show up and sing! For committee members, we hold additional meetings on Thursdays during the same time slot, allowing us to plan performances, discuss ideas, and support the running of the society. Whether you're there to belt it out or just hum along in harmony, your presence is always welcome.
Because your voice matters — and so does your joy. In a time when uni life can feel overwhelming, the Gospel Choir Society offers a much-needed space to de-stress, reconnect, and celebrate yourself through music. You’ll develop your vocal ability, gain stage confidence, and connect with other students who share a passion for uplifting sound and soulful expression. Even if you’re shy or have never sung in a group before, we encourage you to take that first step — because here, you’ll be supported, encouraged, and embraced for exactly who you are. We believe in showing up, showing love, and showing out. So if you're looking for a community that sings with purpose and power, come and shine with us.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
