The LJMU Choir Society is your musical home on campus—a welcoming, non-auditioned community for students who want to sing, perform, and connect. Whether you're a total beginner, a seasoned vocalist, or just someone who loves the joy of music, we’re here to harmonise with you.
The LJMU Choir Society is an inclusive, student-led choir that welcomes singers of all levels and backgrounds. Whether you’ve never sung outside your shower or you’ve performed on stage for years, we believe everyone deserves a place in the choir.
Our society is built around the love of music, connection, and performance. We meet regularly to rehearse, share laughs, and prepare for our end-of-semester concerts, which showcase the talent and dedication of our members. These performances often include full choir numbers, small ensemble pieces, and solo spots—so there's always a chance to shine.
Alongside the main choir, we offer the option to audition for our Chamber Choir. This group rehearses directly after our main choir sessions and explores more advanced music, perfect for those who want to challenge themselves.
We also proudly donate proceeds from our concerts to charity, turning our love of singing into a meaningful contribution. And beyond the music, we’re a fun and supportive community where long-lasting friendships form.
Our open choir is available to anyone who wants to join—there are no auditions, no prior experience needed, and no pressure. We rehearse every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, though sessions may extend or increase in the lead-up to performances.
The optional Chamber Choir meets before the main rehearsal on one of these days, depending on availability and interest. This smaller group performs more complex pieces and runs if we have enough participants.
Membership costs just £15 for the academic year. This fee helps us cover essential costs such as sheet music, equipment, and running fun socials throughout the year. Concerts take place at the end of each semester and always welcome family, friends, and fellow students, with ticket proceeds supporting a chosen charity.
Choir is more than just singing—it’s about belonging, expressing yourself, and making memories. Our society is a great place to meet new people, explore music, and be part of something bigger than yourself.
We perform a wide mix of music, from musical theatre and pop hits to rock anthems and traditional pieces. We love hearing new ideas and song suggestions, and we’re proud of the diverse sounds we bring to every concert.
Most of all, we’re a warm and welcoming community where confidence grows and friendships flourish. Whether you're seeking a creative outlet, want to perform, or are simply curious to try something new—we’d love for you to be part of the LJMU Choir Society.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
