Manifesto in Full

Hello, my name's Charlotte and I study Creative Writing!

I’m neurodivergent and have been a course rep throughout school and university. I work as a Student Living Assistant to provide support for students, and I’ve been part of many societies including on the committee, so I'm dedicated, and I care about making sure every student feels supported and has their voices heard. If elected, I would work tirelessly to make the university more inclusive and easier to access support, with assessments being less stressful and more tailored to your needs. I want:

  1. A Christmas without deadlines- start university earlier in September so that students have time to study and complete their assignments in semester 1 before Christmas. They can have a completely stress-free break, before restarting in late January.

  1. Inclusive Assessments- students are given options for assessments that best show them off and suit their learning style. Exams will be open book, tested on how you can apply your knowledge, not on memorisation. Deadlines will also be staggered to ensure that students can give their all on each assignment, giving them the opportunity to gain the best grade they can.

  1. Non-crisis academic support- make support more accessible and make it easier to ask for extensions. Improve visibility on academic support with more drop-in sessions and guidance on assignment writing and formatting, so students feel more confident and supported. They can take time off the academic side if outside commitments or responsibilities become too much and they just need a break.
