Officers

As term one draws to an end, here’s a recap of what your Student Officers have been up to so far…

Community building

  • Teamwork and togetherness: attended workshops and residentials to build relationships with each other and wider JMSU staff.
  • Expanding networks: Continuing to meet with other Students' Union Student Officer teams to learn and work cohesively with them.
  • Volunteering: helped to restore the Kensington Fields Community Centre gardens and helped with litter picking around Kensington.
  • Championed Inter Faith Week: Celebrated our wonderfully diverse body of students - coming together to celebrate their faith and cultures and learn about others.
  • Marie’s Officer Win: she will be hosting her Winter Socials to encourage students who will be in Liverpool over the break or may not celebrate Christmas. This will encourage a safe and communal feeling over December when teaching and learning ends.

Championing for equality, diversity, and inclusion

  • Celebrated Liverpool Pride with JMSU and LJMU staff and students.
  • Marie and Shaquita led on Black History Month – their work provoked important conversations amongst staff and students, highlighted key aspects of the month and educated those around them to make impactful change within LJMU and JMSU.
  • Shaquita’s Officer Win: she created a Decolonise the Curriculum working group and pledge, alongside LJMU.
  • Clodagh’s Officer Win: ‘Challenge Clodagh’ took off in October – she has been spotlighting a different sport and society each week - breaking down barriers, encouraging others to get involved and making sure groups are as inclusive as possible.

Being the leading voices for students

  • Attended the NUS Lead and Change conference – they learned tips, tricks and new skills in order to prepare them as democratic leaders of our organisation. They enhanced their teamwork skills further and prepared their manifesto points for the year ahead.
  • Made sure Freshers feedback from last year was considered for this year, to give freshers and returning students the best possible experience in and around campus.
  • Working hard to ensure the university works towards a plan on the Cost of Living to guarantee students are supported.
  • Gaby’s Officer Win: jmsYOU podcast hit the internet – The podcast will continue throughout the year, voicing reallife experiences told by students.

Well done team, your hard work is paying off! We can’t wait to see what they get up to in 2023…
