Challenge Clodagh
Hey everyone! Clodagh here, your VP Activities. As part of my manifesto, I aim to make sure that all students have the same opportunities to get involved with activities, sports and societies. I have been developing a concept, 'Challenge Clodagh', to break down barriers students may face when wanting to join a student group. I want to explore Challenge Clodagh as a way of bringing students together and highlighting any issues we may be facing, in order to resolve them. I hope this will also bring sports and societies groups closer together, let other students get a better understanding on how student groups work, and most importantly, ensure groups are providing easy-accessible ways of joining their teams.
So, what is ‘Challenge Clodagh’?
It is a campaign that I have created to get as many of our students involved in all the amazing sports and societies that JMSU has to offer, showcasing our wide variety of student-led groups. It will also act as a stepping-stone for anyone that might be a little nervous to go along to a session alone, they can come along with me and give the sport/society a try. The 'challenge' aspect of the campaign encourages committee members of each group to task me something to do with their society or sport in order to make it entertaining and engaging. This could be as simple as ‘Bring 3 people along to one of our sessions’ – the more creative the better.
How often will it happen?
Every week, w/c 17th October. Each week, at least one sport and one society will be allocated to me based on their preferences and acitivties, and I will post this on my Instagram page. On the post, it will contain all the details including location, time and anything you need to bring with you. I will also showcase my task that I have been given by the group, as well as highlights from the activity so you can see what it's really like to be a part of JMSU sports and societies.
Who can get involved?
Everyone – all LJMU students can get involved by either replying to any posts me or JMSU upload, or alternatively you can send me a direct message to let me know that you’ll be joining, and I will arrange a meeting place with you. The committees of each student group have also kindly agreed to get involved so they can show us the ropes of their sports team/society!
Why should you get involved?
From my own personal experience as an LJMU student, joining JMSU sports and societies made an enourmous and positive impact on my university life. This has encouraged me to get to were I am today; representing students and encouraging them to join activities whilst providing inclusive and accessible spaces for recreational activity. I truly believe that by joining the Snow Sports team ensured that my time at LJMU was bound to be an amazing experience.
I hope that my campaign will encourage students to join groups, make friends, and create amazing memories that you’ll be able to look back on forever. I hope to see you involved soon!
