About the Role: 

As Front of House Cafe Assistant, you will support the smooth running of The Brain Charity’s Cafe Team by assisting with front of house operations by assisting with the operation of the till and ensuring the cafe area is kept clean.  

We are currently looking for a volunteer to assist in the Cafe each Wednesday from 9:30 – 14:30. 

We would not be able to provide our services without the support of amazing people like you who offer their time to The Brain Charity. You’ll help create a safe and supportive environment where people affected by neurological conditions can improve their health and wellbeing. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Welcome customers and provide excellent service. 

  • Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks, and snacks. 

  • Handle cash and card payments accurately (till training provided). 

  • Assist with restocking fridges and snack counters. 

  • Assist with organising  and keeping the stock area clean – ensuring stock rotation is completed. 

  • Operate the dish washer when required. 

  • Keep the café clean and hygienic, including tables, counters, and equipment. 

  • Work as part of a team to maintain a warm and inclusive atmosphere. 

  • Assist with preparing for upcoming events. 

Skills & requirements 

  • Previous food service or hospitality experience.  

  • Level 2 Food Safety (training can be provided). 

  • A clear Enhanced DBS check (to be arranged by The Brain Charity before starting).

Working Conditions: 

This role primarily involves indoor work within a busy café setting. Some of the specific working conditions are: 

  • Physical Environment: Primarily indoor work in a café setting, with occasional exposure to hot/cold temperatures due to seasonal changes and equipment use. 

  • Physical Requirements: Requires regular standing, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching. 

  • Exposure to Hazards: Limited exposure to hot equipment, cleaning chemicals, and sharp utensils. PPE is provided. 

  • Customer Interaction: High levels of public interaction.

Key responsibilities

Restock fridges and snack displays, organise stock, and assist with stock rotation. Operate the dishwasher and support general café housekeeping duties. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across tables, counters, equipment, and customer areas. Work alongside staff and fellow volunteers to create a warm and welcoming environment. Support the café team with event preparation and ensure excellent customer service at all times.
