SEAs stands for Student Experience Awards, and it’s our annual awards event that celebrates students and staff at LJMU.
We spend the academic year collecting feedback across course, community, and department, to identify the individuals and teams who work hard to increase the quality the student experience.
This award is for a teacher who displays excellent standards of teaching, this could be through inclusive methods of teaching and learning that are intellectually stimulating and mentally engaging, in and outside of the classroom, excellent use of technology, is an expert in their field and share this knowledge in a way that students understand well, challenging you and your peers to improve academically, and goes above and beyond the curriculum to expand your knowledge and experience.
This could be anyone who delivers your teaching, namely lecturers and academic staff.
This is for a course team who may have developed your course or learning opportunities in a way which supported you and your peers, relevant to your field of study. This will be made up of any relevant staff who work together to build an academic community where students feel like they belong and are valued - They make the content interesting, engaging or exciting, organising your course professionally, effectively and with leadership, and displaying excellent and relevant practice of learning. These individuals work together and cooperate well to make your experience as smooth as possible.
This might include your module leaders, programme leaders, admin staff, technicians, readers, lecturers, etc.
This award is to celebrate someone who supports students' academic experience in the classroom. While not a personal tutor or teacher, they go out of their way to check in and signpost, supporting students in their academic development. This individual will have shown exceptional dedication to facilitating undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching, investing significant time in preparing for sessions, supporting lecturers, and using their skills and knowledge to enhance student learning, engagement, and satisfaction, and further LJMU as a place of expert-led teaching and learning.
This could be, but not limited to, a Technician, Student Support Officer, PGR Student or Demonstrator.
This award is for a personal tutor who has provided outstanding contributions to guiding students' academic and personal development, by enabling students to feel part of the community and field in which they are studying, developing your confidence and academic skills, assisting you in navigating your studies effectively, pointing you in the right direction for future career development, and allowing you to access timely and appropriate support.
This is for an individual staff member within a professional service at LJMU, who works around campuses to keep the learning environment safe and comfortable for all students and staff, or perhaps behind the scenes to support not just the academic experience, but also other aspects of the student experience you may not consider on the day-to-day. You may have had an experience with this individual where they showed you great care and kindness, answered your questions clearly, and provided support with expertise that no-one else has. They care about those around them, are hardworking, and put students at the heart of their work, even if they are not usually student-facing.
This could be a cleaner, campus services, receptionist, librarian, IT Support, and many others. Even if you are unsure of their name, please still consider nominating them and providing extra information so we can find them and recognise their hard work!
This is any student or staff member who encourages inclusive participation, and their efforts to foster the feeling of belonging by being representative and inspiring. Equality, diversity and inclusivity may also be at the heart of what they do, beyond the commitment expected of them, and their effort to combat relevant issues in EDI are evident in the way they may eliminate discrimination, are innovative in their efforts to be inclusive, and make the people around them feel like they can be their true and authentic selves.
This is for any student who has truly embodied the meaning of student voice and student experience. They are welcoming, friendly and warm, and do what they can to amplify the student voice as much as possible. They are engaging and supportive, and have empowered students to speak up and make impactful change at either a course wide, school wide, community or institutional level. Their impact has made a noticeable change to their peers, building safe spaces where students can feel heard, included and valued, and they are a role model for anyone who interacts with them.
This category is for any student, but namely could be a student rep, student group member, or student voice campaigner.
This is for a student rep who may have worked hard to hear and action your concerns, ideas and feedback while at university. They may have made or helped steer impactful change, signposted you at a moment of uncertainty, been a friendly face when you were unsure where or who to turn to, helped build community and student voice within your cohort, or been a true representative of yourself and everyone on your course or in your school.
This could be your Course Rep, Class Rep, Cohort Rep, School Rep, or Academic Inclusivity Rep.
