Meet the School Reps

School Reps are student leaders who represent the collective academic voice of students within each LJMU school. Working closely with Course Reps and senior university staff, they drive improvements across departments to enhance the student learning experience.

They play a crucial role in championing your concerns, collaborating on solutions, and shaping the decisions that impact your academic life. Whether it’s improving assessment feedback, pushing for more inclusive teaching practices, or streamlining course delivery — School Reps are at the heart of it.

What do School Reps do?

School Reps work at a higher strategic level to influence school-wide academic change. Their responsibilities include:

  • Collecting and representing feedback from Course Reps
  • Working directly with Heads of School and senior staff
  • Feeding into academic committees and Student Voice Forums
  • Championing issues like inclusivity, accessibility, and student wellbeing
  • Collaborating with JMSU Officers to amplify the student voice

What are School Reps?

School Reps are like senior Course Reps who work at a school level. They represent not just students on their own course but all students across every course within their academic school.

They gather feedback from a wide range of students as well as from Course Reps, and attend Faculty Education Student Experience Committees to raise school-wide (not course-specific) issues with academic staff and professional services.

This is a paid student leader role, funded by JMSU to recognise the value of their contribution and to support students financially.

How do they differ from Course Reps?

Course Reps are volunteers who represent their course peers and raise course-level issues to programme leads and academic staff at Boards of Studies.

In contrast, School Reps are paid student leaders who represent all students within their academic school. They collect broader feedback across multiple courses and bring this — along with insights from Course Reps — to higher-level committees and meetings with Heads of School.

What can I contact my School Rep about?

You can contact your School Rep about issues or best practices that affect the wider school — beyond the scope of your specific course or module.

If your concern is related to your specific course, module, or teaching approach, it’s better suited to your Course Rep(s).
