One of the best parts of this role is seeing the impact our student groups have across sport, societies, and volunteering. These awards are all about recognising that - the time, energy, and passion you’ve put in.
Sports Awards
We’re heading back to Anfield for a special night celebrating our sports clubs - recognising commitment, teamwork, and leadership across the year.

General Event Information
What are the Student Group Awards Evenings?
There are two awards evenings for Student Groups; the JMSU Society and Volunteering Awards, which recognises our wonderful, vibrant societies and our dedicated volunteers, and JMSU Sports Ball, which celebrates our student athletes and sports clubs.
Who is eligible to attend?
Any member of a society, any active JMSU volunteer, or any member of a JMSU sports club can attend with a valid ticket.
Do I need to be part of a student group to come to the event?
Yes - you must hold a full, and if appropriate paid, membership of a student group to attend.
How long does the event usually last?
Each award ceremony will last several hours. Doors will open around 7-ish and finish around midnight, but check your individual event for confirmed timings.
What is the dress code?
Our Society and Volunteering Awards are generally smart casual, but break out your best party outfit if you want to! It is a celebration after all! The JMSU Sports Ball is black tie.
Tickets & Registration
How do I get tickets for the event?
Committee members have been sent private links for committee tickets, so check your emails. General sale tickets will be available on our website.
Are tickets free or do I need to pay?
All tickets need to be paid for, unless you’re one of our lucky prize winners. Prize winners will be contacted separately.
Can I bring a guest?
No – each attendee must have their own ticket.
I can no longer attend – can I cancel or transfer my ticket?
Yes, just email the relevant email address with the following information:
- Your name
- Your ticket number
- Your ticket type
- Your group/club
- Any allergens you have
- The person you wish to transfer it to (their full name please)
- Their email address
- Their group/club
- Their allergens
If you want to swap, rather than transfer, please use the same format as above but list both tickets (i.e. both original tickets, then both changed tickets).

Nominations & Awards
Who can nominate a student group or individual?
Nominations for a number of awards have been made by your committees. They will also get to vote on the shortlisted candidates.
When will shortlisted nominees be announced?
Voting opens on Wednesday 1st April and closes on Monday 6th April at 5pm.
Accessibility & Inclusion
Is the venue accessible?
Yes! Both venues are fully accessible. Please let us know your access requirements when you purchase your ticket so we can make sure everything is in place for you to have the best possible evening.
Can I request accessibility accommodations?
Absolutely, you can add them on when you buy your tickets. If you forget to add anything in, or if your circumstances change, please email the relevant email address with your access requirements and we will do our best to accommodate.

Will there be quiet spaces available?
Yes, both ceremonies will have quiet spaces and prayer spaces available. If you would like to use them on the night, just speak to a member of JMSU staff and they will be able to help you.
On the Night
Will food and drinks be provided?
Yes! Tickets for both ceremonies will include some food and drink. Please see the relevant award ceremony for more information on what’s included. You can let us know if you have any dietary requirements when you purchase your ticket.
Are there photography or videography plans?
We will have a photographer capturing both photo and video content on the evening. We will also have content staff putting winners and memorable moments on to social media. If you don’t wish to be featured in photos or videos, please let a member of staff know on the evening.
Where can I find the programme for the evening?
Programmes will be available on your table when you arrive at the venue. For start and finish times, please see the relevant ceremony for more information.
After the Event
Will photos be available afterwards?
Photos will be available shortly after the event on our Facebook page.
How can I learn who won the awards?
Award winners will be shared on social media on JMSU or Team LJMU.
Can I get a certificate if my group wins?
Award winners will receive a trophy at both ceremonies. There will also be individual awards for bronze, silver and gold volunteers and sports colours.
