The LJMU Shamisen Society is a group dedicated to playing the Japanese instrument, singing the Japanese traditional songs, and endeavoring Japanese culture. Japanese learners have a chance to speak Japanese and learn other Japanese culture. Other activities, Japanese garden visit is also available. It is ideal to enrich our world. Welcome to the LJMU Shamisen Society! We are welcoming all students who have a passion for Japanese culture and musical instruments, including Shamisen. Our society is for anyone who enjoys these things. Whether you want to learn how to play the Shamisen or not doesn’t matter. If you want to, we provide you an opportunity to play the Shamisen twice a month. If you are interested in other Japanese culture - such as art, architecture, gardens, music, or Japanese, we are happy to have you join us. We meet the 1st and the 3rd Friday of each month at 6 PM at Room…. We play the Shamisen together and explore Japanese culture. For beginners, we start with songs like “Twinkle Twinkle” or “Sakura sakura (cherry blossoms)”. We also sing Japanese traditional songs, ‘Kouta’ or short songs, in Japanese with English explanations. If you play another instrument, we encourage you to share your experience and collaborate with us! Joining the LJMU Shamisen Society is a journey into Japanese culture and gain new experiences. Our society is a perfect way to expand your worldview through Japanese culture. Since there are no other shamisen classes in person in Liverpool, this is your exclusive chance to pick up this traditional instrument. Don't miss out—join the journey! Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles. President -
