More than just a dance class, the Salsa Society is a celebration of Latin culture, rhythm, and connection. It's a weekly space where anyone — regardless of experience — can learn, laugh, and lose themselves in the joy of movement, music, and community.
Welcome to the LJMU Salsa Society — a vibrant, energetic, and inclusive community dedicated to celebrating Latin dance and culture. Whether you’ve never danced before or you're a seasoned salsa enthusiast, our doors are open to anyone who wants to move, connect, and have a good time.
At the heart of our society is a passion for Latin dance forms like Cuban salsa, salsa rueda, bachata, kizomba, and reggaeton. Our weekly classes are designed to be approachable, exciting, and filled with positive energy — no partner or experience required. You’ll not only learn the steps, but also the history, flair, and cultural essence behind the dance styles.
We’re more than just dance — we’re about friendships, community, and fun. Whether you're dancing in the studio, connecting with members at socials, or partying at Latin nights across Liverpool, you’ll be part of something joyful and empowering. We also welcome anyone who’d like to be involved behind the scenes, helping us plan events, run sessions, or promote the society — there’s a role for everyone here.
We hold weekly dance sessions every Saturday at the LJMU Sports Building, Studio 1. The Beginner Class runs from 6pm to 7pm, followed by the Improvers Class from 7pm to 8pm. Each session is affordable and fun — just £3 per class, with a one-time £1 joining fee to cover insurance.
All socials and events — including dance parties, cultural celebrations, and society mixers — will be announced at sessions and posted on our Instagram page. Make sure to follow us and stay connected!
Joining the Salsa Society means stepping into a world full of rhythm, confidence, and connection. Whether you're here to try something new, build your dance skills, or meet people from diverse backgrounds, you'll be embraced in a warm and welcoming space. Our sessions offer more than movement — they’re a release from stress, a boost to your wellbeing, and a path to lasting friendships.
Plus, you’ll get the chance to attend and perform at lively Latin nights in Liverpool, collaborate with other societies, and express yourself in a fun, non-judgmental environment. It’s an unforgettable way to enhance your university experience and feel part of something truly alive.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
