Women’s Rugby Union is a bold, empowering sport that combines athleticism, strategy, and fierce determination. It’s about strength — physical and mental — as well as skill, teamwork, and spirit. Whether you’re making your first tackle or scoring your next try, rugby offers a powerful way to push your limits and grow in confidence.
Our Women’s Rugby Union Club welcomes players of all backgrounds and abilities — from complete beginners to experienced athletes. We offer regular training, competitive matches, and a supportive environment where every player is encouraged to thrive. Beyond the pitch, we’re a tight-knit team that celebrates every win, every challenge, and every voice. Pull on the jersey — it’s more than just rugby, it’s a movement.

Welcome to LJMU Women’s Rugby Union – a team built around friendship, fun, and the love of rugby. Whether you’ve never picked up an odd-shaped ball before or you’re already playing at a high level, you’ll be warmly welcomed here. We’re proud to compete in BUCS Northern League 3A, but what matters most to us is the spirit of the team, the support we give each other, and the laughs we have along the way. We train hard, play harder, and always leave time to enjoy everything student life has to offer. Joining our team means being part of a community that values teamwork, confidence, and inclusion on and off the pitch.
Training takes place on Monday evenings at Birkenhead Park RFC, with times for the 2024/25 season to be confirmed. To make travel easy and enjoyable, the team meets beforehand at Liverpool Lime Street Station so we can head to training together. Competitive matches take place on Wednesday afternoons as part of the BUCS league. We also organise strength and conditioning sessions around academic schedules to support your development and fitness throughout the year. Every Wednesday evening we host themed socials planned by our dedicated social secs, and these events are always inclusive—whether you drink or not, there’s something for everyone.
LJMU Women’s Rugby Union offers the full university experience. It’s your chance to stay active, try something new, and make lifelong friends in a supportive and empowering environment. We work closely with the SU and RFU to create a safe, welcoming, and fun space for everyone, whether we’re on the pitch or out celebrating a win. If you’re looking for a team that will push you to grow, lift you up, and make every week memorable—this is the place to be.
