From the first whistle to the final tackle, it demands commitment, resilience, and heart — and rewards players with unmatched camaraderie and pride. Whether you’re battling for territory or building fitness, Rugby Union offers a powerful test of body and mind.
Our Men’s Rugby Union Club welcomes players of all levels — from newcomers learning the game to seasoned athletes looking to compete. We run regular training sessions, competitive fixtures, and strength and conditioning programmes to help you develop your skills and push your limits. LJMU Men’s Rugby Union is a friendly and competitive club at the heart of the university sports scene. Whether you’re an experienced player or completely new to the game, you’ll find a place here. We currently run two teams in the BUCS leagues, with a committed squad made up of students from all ability levels. There’s no previous experience needed – just enthusiasm, team spirit, and a willingness to get stuck in. We pride ourselves on being inclusive, supportive, and driven. Whether your goal is to improve your fitness, compete at a high level, or simply meet new people, we provide the environment and structure to help you do that.
Training takes place every Monday evening from 8:00pm to 9:30pm at Birkenhead Park RFC. These sessions are a mix of fitness, skills development, and team preparation, tailored to players of all abilities. Additional matchdays and team events run throughout the academic year, especially for those involved in BUCS fixtures. Keep an eye on our updates and team communications to stay informed about upcoming matches, training adjustments, and club activities.
