Rugby League is a fast-paced, high-intensity team sport that’s all about strength, speed, and strategy. Played with 13 players on each side, the aim is to carry or kick the ball over the try line to score points. Unlike Rugby Union, Rugby League has a six-tackle rule, which keeps the game flowing and makes it incredibly exciting to watch and play.

Our Men's Rugby League group welcomes players of all skill levels — whether you're an experienced player or completely new to the sport. It's a great way to stay active, build resilience, and be part of a tight-knit, supportive team environment. We train regularly, compete in student leagues, and always make time for socials off the pitch too!

Come and get involved — it’s more than just a game, it’s a community.

This upcoming season, we’ll be competing in the Premier North Division — the highest level of university rugby league. Currently, we are the only sports team at the university competing in a Premier Division.

On and off the field, LJMURL is a tight-knit group. The team also hosts regular social events outside of training, offering a great opportunity to get to know the players and make the most of your university experience.

Match Days: Wednesday afternoons, with home games played at Thatto Heath Crusaders.

Why Us?

Men’s Rugby League is for those who have a love and passion for the game — all abilities are welcome. Joining a sports team, club, or society is one of the best ways to experience university life. It’s a chance to make lifelong friends, celebrate weekly victories with a few ales, and enjoy free VIP access to some of the best pubs and clubs Liverpool has to offer!

Beyond the social side, being part of a team also helps you stay healthy and active — especially with free training sessions.
