R.A.M.S is Liverpool John Moores University’s vibrant and welcoming community for fans of
rock, metal, and alternative music. More than just a society, it’s a movement to rebuild and energize Liverpool’s young metal scene while creating a safe, inclusive space where anyone with a passion for heavy music can connect, express themselves, and enjoy unforgettable experiences together.
At R.A.M.S, we celebrate the powerful, raw energy of rock and metal music, embracing all subgenres and alternative sounds that shape this diverse scene. Our society is built on the idea of creating a supportive environment where everyone — from hardcore metalheads to curious newcomers — feels at home.
We believe that music can unite, inspire, and transform, so we work hard to foster a strong community of likeminded individuals who want to share their love for heavy riffs, screaming vocals, and everything in between. Whether it’s through live gigs, club nights, karaoke sessions, or creative socials like patch sewing and music quizzes, we aim to bring people together, build lasting friendships, and make university life more vibrant and memorable.
Liverpool’s metal scene has immense potential, and R.A.M.S is dedicated to rebuilding and strengthening it one social gathering at a time. Come join us to be part of something exciting, supportive, and loud.
We meet every Wednesday for socials that vary from pub and club nights to gigs and karaoke events. Our activities often take place in venues around Liverpool as well as the Student Life Building, where we host movies, patch sewing workshops, kahoot quizzes, and other fun music-related events.
Follow our Instagram page for the latest updates on event locations and times. We’re also very open to fresh ideas and invite members to share suggestions via email to help shape the future of the society’s socials and activities.
If you crave good times paired with heavy, unrelenting music, R.A.M.S is the society for you. No other group at LJMU offers such a dedicated space to experience everything from intense metal gigs to laid-back pub socials and quirky creative events like patch crafting.
Our society welcomes everyone who wants to dive deeper into rock and metal culture, meet passionate new friends, and enjoy a broad spectrum of music-based activities — all completely free to join. Whether you’re into thrash, doom, punk, or anything alternative, R.A.M.S guarantees a community where your love for music is understood and celebrated.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
