Pro-Choice Society is a student-led community committed to supporting bodily autonomy and reproductive rights, while fostering education, awareness, and empathy around pregnancy and reproductive health issues. We create a welcoming, stigma-free environment where students can share experiences, gain knowledge, and advocate for choice together.

About Us
The LJMU Pro Choice Society is a welcoming, student-led community built on the belief that everyone deserves the right to make informed choices about their own body and future. While reproductive rights and bodily autonomy are at the heart of what we stand for, our society also opens up conversations around a wide range of issues that matter to students today. From mental health and sexual wellbeing, to gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, stigma around periods, and access to healthcare, we create a safe, supportive space where people can learn, talk, and share without judgement. Our aim is to make sure no one feels silenced or alone in their experiences, and that together we can foster a campus culture built on empathy, respect, and empowerment.

What does that actually look like? Throughout the year we run a wide range of activities and events that anyone can get involved with. We host awareness campaigns on campus and online for key dates such as Menstrual Health Day, Pride Month, and Suicide Prevention Month, making sure these important conversations reach as many people as possible. We organise education talks, inviting guest speakers and charities to share their expertise and experiences. We also love putting on fundraisers, from bake sales to charity runs, raising money for organisations that support reproductive healthcare, mental health services, and crisis support. On top of this, we hold regular socials, and meet ups — everything from coffee mornings to themed nights out — which give our members a chance to relax, make friends, and build a real sense of community.

But being part of the Pro Choice Society is about more than just events. It’s about belonging to a group that genuinely cares. Our welfare team makes sure members know where to turn if they need support, and our campaigns give students the confidence to speak up about issues that matter to them. We do what we do because change starts with conversation — and by standing together, we can challenge outdated stigmas, raise awareness of vital causes, and show that students at LJMU are compassionate, informed, and determined to make a difference.

Whether you want to educate yourself, get involved in activism, meet new people, or simply have a safe space to share your thoughts, the LJMU Pro Choice Society is here for you. Together we are working to build a kinder, more supportive, and more inclusive campus community — and we’d love for you to be part of it.

Key Information
We meet once a month for society meetings, where members can take part in discussions, share ideas, and get involved with planning our campaigns. Alongside this, we run weekly socials that range from relaxed coffee dates and film nights to themed pub crawls, creative events, and charity fundraisers. This balance of regular meetings and fun socials means there’s always something for members to take part in, whether you’re looking for activism, education, or just a chance to meet new people.

Why Us?

Joining Pro-Choice Society means becoming part of a supportive network focused on empowerment and education around reproductive rights. You will have opportunities to engage in campaigns, fundraising, and awareness initiatives that defend reproductive freedom and challenge unjust policies locally and beyond. The society provides a stigma-free space for students facing pregnancy, offering companionship and guidance during difficult times. Members gain access to vital information on reproductive health, legal rights, and healthcare options, empowering them to make informed decisions. By joining, you will meet people who share your values and beliefs, build meaningful friendships, and expand your social network within and beyond university. You can also take part in discussions, guest speaker events, and activism that enrich your university experience and prepare you for future leadership roles. Finally, you will enjoy social events, workshops, and outings designed to balance serious advocacy with fun and connection, making your time at university fulfilling and well-rounded. Together, we aim to break down stigma, provide vital support, and champion the right to choose with respect, dignity, and solidarity.
