The Poetry Society is a creative student community that celebrates the art of words, performance, and self-expression. We welcome everyone, whether you write regularly, perform on stage, or simply enjoy listening to poetry and want to explore it more deeply.

About Us

Our society exists to create a supportive space where students can write, share, and engage with poetry in all its forms. We host workshops, open mic nights, spoken-word evenings, collaborative projects, and trips to poetry events in the wider community. By encouraging both beginners and experienced poets to take part, we build confidence, creativity, and connection through the power of language.

Key Information

Membership is open to all students, regardless of background or level of experience with poetry. We run regular meetings and events during term time, supported by the Student Union and funded by membership fees and small grants. Our activities range from writing sessions and performance nights to guest talks from published poets, and we use social media and newsletters to keep members connected and up to date.

Why Us?

The Poetry Society is the perfect place to explore your creativity, develop your writing and performance skills, and share your voice in a welcoming and inclusive community. By joining us, you’ll gain opportunities to be published, take part in competitions, and collaborate with other student societies, while making friends who share your passion for literature and spoken word.

Committee

Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
