The Liverpool Orthodox Christian Society is a welcoming and inclusive community designed
for students of all backgrounds to explore and deepen their understanding of the Orthodox Christian faith. Whether you already identify as Orthodox or are simply curious to learn more, this society offers a warm space for spiritual growth, fellowship, and shared learning. Our activities combine faith, culture, education, and social connection, helping students connect with one another and with the rich traditions of Orthodoxy during their time at university.
Welcome to the Liverpool Orthodox Christian Society! We provide a friendly, open environment where students—Orthodox or not—can come together to learn about and experience the Orthodox Christian faith. Our society supports both those who are already practicing Orthodox Christians looking to enrich their spiritual lives, and those who are interested in exploring Orthodoxy for the first time. We offer a wide range of activities throughout the year including pilgrimages to significant Orthodox sites across the UK, thoughtful book clubs, engaging movie nights, and talks from guest speakers who help deepen our knowledge of faith and tradition. Our members regularly attend services at the nearby Church of St. Elisabeth the New-Martyr (ROCOR) in Wallasey, and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Liverpool, creating opportunities to connect faith and community beyond campus.
The society meets regularly throughout the academic year, organising a variety of faith-based, cultural, and social events. Planned activities include pilgrimages to Orthodox holy sites, book clubs focusing on Orthodox spirituality, film nights with discussions, and visits from inspiring guest speakers. To stay informed about upcoming events and gatherings, members are encouraged to join our WhatsApp group and follow our Instagram page. For those wishing to attend Orthodox worship services, the nearby Church of St. Elisabeth the New-Martyr in Wallasey holds Great Vespers every Saturday at 6:00pm and Divine Liturgy on Sundays at 10:00am, while St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Liverpool offers Matins and Divine Liturgy on Sundays at 10:00am.
Joining the Liverpool Orthodox Christian Society means becoming part of a supportive, spiritually enriching community that nurtures faith and fellowship. Whether you seek to deepen your Orthodox Christian practice or wish to explore the faith for the first time, our society offers a space for meaningful learning, personal growth, and social connection. With regular pilgrimages, talks, socials, and other engaging activities planned, you will have numerous opportunities to build lasting friendships, engage with faith on a deeper level, and take part in inspiring events throughout the year. Everyone is welcome to join, and we look forward to welcoming you into our community. May God bless you on your journey!
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
