The LJMU Musicians and Singers Society is a vibrant community for anyone passionate about music—whether you play an instrument, love to sing, write songs, or simply enjoy listening and sharing musical experiences. Our society is dedicated to fostering a welcoming space where all genres, skill levels, and musical styles are celebrated. Through regular open mic nights, gigs, and social events, we bring together music lovers across Liverpool to connect, perform, and support each other’s creative journeys.
Welcome to the LJMU Musicians and Singers Society! We are an inclusive and dynamic society designed for music enthusiasts of all kinds, whether you're a seasoned performer, a casual singer, or simply someone who loves to be around music. Our community celebrates every genre, style, and ability—there’s truly a place here for everyone. We regularly host open mic nights every Monday, where members can showcase their talents, discover new artists, and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with friends. Beyond our weekly events, we also collaborate with other local universities and venues around Liverpool to organise gigs that spotlight original music and emerging talent from our members and the wider city music scene. Membership is completely free and open all year, making it easy to jump in whenever you’re ready to join our passionate musical family. Whether you want to perform, listen, or just hang out with like-minded creatives, you’ll find a supportive space with us.
Our signature events are our weekly open mic nights, held every Monday, hosted by enthusiastic committee members who ensure a friendly, low-pressure environment for performers and audience alike. You don’t have to perform every week (or at all!)—just come along to meet other musicians, discover new talent, and soak up the musical vibes. We’re also expanding to new venues across Liverpool city centre, giving members a chance to explore the city’s thriving music scene. Throughout the academic year, we team up with other universities to put on larger gigs and showcases, providing our members with valuable opportunities to perform in professional venues and network with fellow musicians. Aside from musical performances, we organize socials and fun get-togethers designed to strengthen our community spirit, catering to as many tastes and preferences as possible. Plus, our members get free entry to Shindie on Thursdays—one of Liverpool’s iconic music venues—making it easy to experience live music regularly.
Joining the LJMU Musicians and Singers Society means becoming part of an inclusive, friendly, and supportive community where your musical passions are celebrated, no matter your experience or taste. It’s a fantastic way to sharpen your skills, gain performance confidence, and connect with others who share your love for music. Whether you’re looking to find bandmates, collaborate on projects, or just unwind with friends in a creative space, our society offers all this and more. We pride ourselves on making everyone feel welcome and valued—so if you want to grow musically while forging friendships and enjoying Liverpool’s lively music scene, this is the society for you!
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
