The Midwifery Society at LJMU is a supportive, professional community designed to enrich the academic and social experience of students and staff involved in midwifery and maternal healthcare. It’s a place to connect, learn, and grow together while navigating the rewarding yet challenging world of pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care.

About Us

The LJMU Midwifery Society was established to act as a vital support system for student midwives and healthcare professionals. Our society provides a strong foundation to enhance professional development, promote continual learning, and build meaningful connections within the midwifery community. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where members can share ideas, discuss challenges, and collaborate on advancing midwifery practices. Whether you are passionate about expanding your knowledge or simply want to meet like-minded peers, our society offers a balanced mix of academic events, workshops, and social activities to support your journey through education and into your future career. Our core values focus on giving a united voice to student midwives, encouraging lifelong learning, fostering peer support, and maintaining a respectful and open space for all discussions related to midwifery.

Key Information

We organise a variety of events throughout the academic year, ranging from educational workshops and training sessions to social gatherings and networking opportunities. Our calendar includes not only internal society events but also highlights external conferences, study days, and specialist training opportunities relevant to midwifery students. Meeting times and locations vary depending on the event, but members are always kept informed well in advance through our communication channels.

Why Us?

Joining the Midwifery Society offers invaluable opportunities to deepen your understanding of midwifery topics while connecting with peers and professionals who share your passion. Past events, such as workshops on hypnobirthing, smoking cessation, and fetal health, have been praised for their practical benefits and engaging formats. We also host accredited training days and social events designed to strengthen teamwork and build lasting friendships. Being part of this society will not only boost your academic journey but also enrich your personal and professional growth as you prepare for a career dedicated to supporting mothers and families.

Committee

Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
