Contact Us

Jiu Jitsu is a technical and empowering martial art that focuses on grappling, ground control, and submissions. It’s often described as physical chess — combining strength, strategy, and patience to outmaneuver your opponent. Whether you’re learning to defend yourself, improve your fitness, or challenge your mind and body, Jiu Jitsu offers something unique and deeply rewarding.

Our Jiu Jitsu club welcomes everyone — from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. You don’t need to be the strongest or the fastest; just bring a willingness to learn. We train regularly with expert guidance, focusing on technique, respect, and progression at your own pace. Beyond the mats, we’re a tight-knit, supportive community that values discipline, confidence, and camaraderie. Join us — it’s more than a martial art, it’s a mindset.

About Us

Looking to get fit but not a fan of the treadmill? Our Jiu-Jitsu club offers a fun, social, and practical way to challenge yourself while learning valuable self-defence skills. We teach Shorinji Kan Jiu-Jitsu, a modern form of the traditional Japanese martial art that focuses on using an attacker’s momentum against them. With a mix of striking, locks, and throws, our style is both dynamic and effective, making it suitable for all levels of fitness and experience. Alongside regular training in Liverpool, members can take part in regional and national events throughout the year, training with top Senseis and meeting fellow martial artists from across the UK. Beyond the mat, we run fun social events like Ninja Warrior training, themed nights out, and even holidays abroad. Our famous "Drink to a Dan" pub crawl kicks off the year in style, helping new members settle in and make friends while exploring Liverpool's nightlife.

Key Information

We train twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the LJMU Sports Centre on Copperas Hill, Liverpool, L3 5GE. The annual club membership fee is £15, which gives you access to all our sessions after the taster classes. To be fully registered, you’ll also need a £37 licence from The Jiu Jitsu Foundation (TJJF), which covers insurance and allows you to train at any affiliated club across the UK. If you decide to continue training, you’ll also need a Gi (training uniform), which usually costs around £30. We’ll help you order one through the club, or you’re welcome to buy your own separately.

Why Us?

Jiu-Jitsu is more than just a martial art—it’s a way to build strength, fitness, coordination, and confidence in a supportive, inclusive environment. Whether you’re brand new to fitness or already active, our club offers a unique opportunity to develop new skills while making lasting friendships. Regular training can help improve your posture, focus, and even leadership skills, and we pride ourselves on being welcoming and open to everyone. The best way to see what we’re all about is to come along, try a session, and experience the energy of the group for yourself.

Each sports club is led by a student committee responsible for running the club, organising activities, and representing members. The committee is chaired by the Club Captain, with support from other elected roles.
