The Indie Society at LJMU is a music-focused community for those who live for live gigs, love discovering hidden musical gems, and want to meet others who share a passion for all things alternative, fresh, and underground. Whether you're deep into the indie scene or just starting to explore it, this society is your backstage pass to a year of unforgettable sound, stories, and social vibes.

About Us

Welcome to the official Indie Society of Liverpool John Moores University — the home for anyone whose heart beats to the rhythm of indie music. Our mission is simple: to bring together students who love discovering new bands, dancing to guitar-driven anthems, and soaking up Liverpool’s rich live music culture.
We’re all about creating a relaxed, inclusive space where people can come together over shared playlists, legendary nights out, and a growing calendar of gig experiences. Whether you're into post-punk, bedroom pop, garage rock or something in between, we celebrate all sides of indie. More than just a music society, we’re a community that supports the local music scene, champions small artists, and makes sure no one has to go to a gig alone ever again.

Key Information

We meet roughly every two weeks for a mix of activities ranging from laid-back socials and indie pub quizzes to nights out and group gig trips across the city. Most of our events are held in central Liverpool venues and bars, making it easy to get involved no matter where you're based. Dates, times, and themes are shared on our Instagram and society pages — so keep an eye out and feel free to drop us a message if you’re unsure about anything!

Why Us?

If you’ve ever hesitated to go to a gig alone or struggled to find others who share your love of indie music, we’ve got you covered. The Indie Society is a welcoming space for everyone – from longtime vinyl collectors to Spotify explorers looking to break free from the Top 40.

Our events are designed to create easygoing connections and unforgettable nights, whether you’re belting lyrics at a live set or swapping playlists over a pint. You’ll be part of a group that genuinely supports the music industry — not just by showing up to gigs, but by helping small venues and independent artists thrive in a tough landscape.
With positive feedback from members and a growing rep on campus, this is your chance to be part of something that sounds — and feels — good. 🎧
