LJMU Heels Society is more than a dance class — it’s a celebration of confidence, self-expression, and fierce empowerment through performance. Whether you’ve danced before or are stepping into your first pair of heels, this is your space to move boldly, feel empowered, and join a powerful community that lifts each other up.
LJMU Heels Society is entering its third sensational year, and we’re dancing into it stronger than ever. From being crowned Best New Society (2019/2020) to securing Rising Society (2023/2024), our journey is one of growth, passion, and unshakeable confidence.
Our society is open to all — no matter your gender, experience level, or background. Our weekly classes are designed to help you unlock your inner confidence, build your dance technique, and connect with your most authentic, empowered self. Each class brings something new — a fresh style, fierce choreography, and plenty of feel-good vibes.
Heels isn’t just about movement; it’s performance art with attitude, emotion, and energy. We provide a safe and inclusive space to push yourself, explore your style, and — most importantly — have fun. Mistakes are welcome, growth is celebrated, and you’re encouraged to express yourself without fear or pressure.
Our classes are held weekly at the LJMU Sports Building in Studio 1. These sessions are open classes, meaning you can drop in, no matter your level of experience, and take part in something new every week. Each session features completely new choreography, often focusing on different styles and themes. Throughout the year, we also host guest choreographers and industry professionals, giving members the chance to learn from a wide range of creative voices. For those wanting to find us in person, we’ll be at the Freshers Fair, based in the Exhibition Centre. You can also stay up to date and get involved by following us on Instagram @ljmuheelssociety, where we post updates, class info, and lots of behind-the-scenes content from our amazing community.
Joining the Heels Society means stepping into a space where self-expression, creativity and confidence are not only encouraged — they are celebrated. Whether you want to try something new, push yourself out of your comfort zone, or simply have fun and feel amazing, our society is here to offer you the experience of a lifetime. Every week you’ll be guided through choreography designed to help you connect with your body, boost your performance skills, and develop your confidence, both on and off the dance floor. Our environment is welcoming, inclusive, and filled with good vibes. It’s a place where you can make mistakes, improve, grow, and support one another while creating long-lasting friendships. You’ll also have the opportunity to build your performer’s portfolio, meet likeminded people, and learn from some of the best talents in the industry. Most importantly, you’ll walk away from each class feeling empowered, energised, and proud of what you’ve achieved.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
