Gaelic Football is a dynamic and fast-moving team sport that combines elements of soccer, rugby, and basketball. Played with 15 players on each side, the goal is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the opponent’s net or between the posts above it. It’s a game full of skill, stamina, and physicality, with plenty of running, catching, and quick decision-making.
Our Men's Gaelic Football team welcomes players at every level — whether you’re new to the game or have experience from back home. It’s an amazing way to boost your fitness, develop new skills, and be part of a passionate, supportive group. We train regularly, compete in student leagues and tournaments, and enjoy plenty of social events off the pitch. Come join us — it’s more than just a sport, it’s a community.

LJMU Men’s Gaelic Football is a team built on passion, competition, and real camaraderie. If you’re looking to stay active, try something different, and be part of a tight-knit group, this is the sport for you. Gaelic Football is a high-energy game combining the skills of soccer, rugby, and basketball. Played with 15 players on each team, the goal is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the net (3 points) or over the bar (1 point). It’s physical, fast-paced—and seriously fun. Whether you’ve played before or you’re completely new to the game, everyone’s welcome.
We train twice a week—on Mondays and Thursdays—to stay sharp and match-ready. Fixtures are usually on Saturdays or Sundays, depending on the calendar. Off the pitch, we’re just as active socially, with regular events every other week. From casual nights out to team bonding activities, there’s always something going on.
You don’t need any prior experience to get involved—most lads who join haven’t played Gaelic before. What matters is that you’re up for giving it a go. We’ll help you learn the basics, improve your fitness, and feel part of the team from day one. LJMU Men’s Gaelic is more than just a sports club. It’s a chance to meet people from all backgrounds, build confidence, and enjoy uni life to the fullest. Whether you're here to compete, stay active, or find your people, you'll get all of that here—and more.
