Football is the world’s most popular sport, loved for its fast pace, teamwork, and skillful play. Played with 11 players on each side, the goal is simple — score by getting the ball into the opposing team’s net while defending your own. The game blends speed, strategy, and endurance, making every match exciting and full of moments that can change the game in an instant.

Our Women’s Football team is open to everyone, whether you’ve been kicking a ball your whole life or you’re just starting out. It’s a fantastic way to stay fit, improve your coordination, and enjoy the thrill of competition. We train regularly, compete in university leagues, and off the pitch, we love socialising and building a strong team spirit. Join us — it’s more than just a sport, it’s a community where everyone belongs.

About Us

LJMU Women’s Football Club is a vibrant and growing community of players who compete in the BUCS league, representing the university with pride and passion. With three competitive teams and a steadily expanding membership, we’re one of the most inclusive and energetic clubs on campus. Whether you're a regular player, just returning to the sport, or looking to try something new, there’s a place here for you. We’re not just about football. Our club is rooted in friendship, confidence-building, and creating an environment where everyone feels supported. Alongside regular fixtures and training sessions, we also place a strong focus on community, collaboration, and personal development. Many of our members also gain experience playing in local women’s leagues, opening up additional opportunities beyond university.

Key Information

Training takes place every Monday evening at Heron Eccles Football Hub. Matches are held weekly on Wednesdays, with home fixtures hosted at Jeffrey Humble Football Hub and away games taking place at other universities across the North West. Transport to these away fixtures is provided to ensure that all players can participate. Weekly socials also happen on Wednesday evenings and are a key part of the club experience, offering something for everyone—from lively nights out to relaxed, inclusive get-togethers. The city’s great transport links make travelling to and from training and matches easy and affordable, and we make sure that every member is kept in the loop with clear communication and support.

Why Us?

Being part of LJMU Women’s Football is about more than playing the game. It’s about forming lasting friendships, growing in confidence, and finding a community that celebrates every step of progress—on and off the pitch. Our club brings together students from all backgrounds and levels of experience, united by a shared love for the sport and a desire to make the most of their university years. Whether you’re aiming to improve your skills, get back into football after a break, or simply want to meet like-minded people, this is the perfect space to do it. We offer the chance to train, compete, and socialise in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. Through football, socials, and wider university events, you’ll make memories and connections that can last long after graduation. This year is shaping up to be our biggest yet, and we can’t wait to welcome new faces to the team. Come along, get involved, and make LJMU Women’s Football a part of your journey.
