Football is the world’s most popular sport, loved for its fast pace, teamwork, and skillful play. Played with 11 players on each side, the goal is simple — score by getting the ball into the opposing team’s net while defending your own. The game blends speed, strategy, and endurance, making every match exciting and full of moments that can change the game in an instant.
Our Men’s Football team is open to everyone, whether you’ve been kicking a ball your whole life or you’re just starting out. It’s a fantastic way to stay fit, improve your coordination, and enjoy the thrill of competition. We train regularly, compete in university leagues, and off the pitch, we love socialising and building a strong team spirit. Join us — it’s more than just a sport, it’s a community where everyone belongs.

LJMU Men’s Football Club is the university’s largest sporting society, made up of six teams offering students the chance to compete in fast-paced, high-level football. Whether you're a seasoned player or someone looking to push themselves in a more structured environment, our club provides a competitive and welcoming space to develop your skills. We are part of the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues and play weekly matches against other universities, creating a strong and committed football community on campus.
All teams train on Sunday evenings, with training times depending on your team. Matches are played each Wednesday, with times varying depending on home or away fixtures. Socials take place on Wednesday nights, and they are a big part of our club culture, helping everyone get to know each other off the pitch. Due to the commitment expected at this level, we ask that anyone joining makes sure these days work for them, as consistent attendance is important for both team selection and match preparation. Key information about fixtures, socials, and club events will be shared through our social media channels.
Joining LJMU Men’s Football Club is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people, stay active, and be part of a competitive but enjoyable environment. As well as regular football, you’ll become part of a vibrant social scene with weekly events and opportunities to make long-lasting friendships. From team nights out to club trips and fundraisers, there’s something for everyone. If you’re looking for a strong team environment on the pitch and a great group off it, this is the club for you.
Each sports club is led by a student committee responsible for running the club, organising activities, and representing members. The committee is chaired by the Club Captain, with support from other elected roles.
