Cricket is a strategic, skilful bat-and-ball game that blends patience, precision, and teamwork. Played with two teams of 11, the aim is to score runs by hitting the ball and running between wickets, while the fielding team tries to bowl players out. It’s a sport that rewards focus, technique, and smart decision-making — and nothing beats the thrill of a well-timed boundary or a game-changing wicket.
Our Men’s Cricket Club welcomes players of all abilities, whether you’ve played for years or are just starting out. We train regularly, compete in student competitions, and pride ourselves on a friendly, inclusive team spirit both on and off the pitch.
Get involved — it’s not just about the game, it’s about being part of something bigger.

Cricket is one of the fastest-growing sports at LJMU and across the UK. LJMU Cricket Club now boasts over 50 members, ranging from premier league-level players to complete beginners. No matter your experience or ability, there’s a place for you in our club.
While most people think of cricket as a summer sport, we’re active all year round. Our 1st XI reached the national last 16 in indoor cricket last season, while maintaining top division status in the outdoor league. The 2nd XI also had a strong year, gaining promotion to Division 3 and setting the tone for an even stronger campaign ahead. We train twice a week at the Student Life Sports Centre in town, with sessions on Monday and Friday evenings. If you’re planning to join, we recommend bringing your cricket kit when moving into accommodation in September—but don’t worry if you don’t have any, you’re still more than welcome to come along. Our open session for new members will be announced on social media in mid-September.
We’re a competitive and ambitious club, but also inclusive and welcoming. Cricket is at the heart of what we do, but the friendships formed off the pitch are just as important. We offer a standard of cricket to suit everyone, and pride ourselves on being a tight-knit and supportive group. Our social calendar is just as active as our playing schedule. Every Wednesday we host themed socials in town, with regular weekend events and daytime activities throughout the week. We also work closely with charities such as Movember, RedforRuth and Opening Up Cricket, using our platform to raise awareness and support important causes within the community.
Each sports club is led by a student committee responsible for running the club, organising activities, and representing members. The committee is chaired by the Club Captain, with support from other elected roles.
