The Creative Writing Society is a welcoming and inclusive community for anyone interested in writing—whether you’re a seasoned storyteller, a casual poet, or someone who just likes to jot down thoughts or jokes online. It’s a space to experiment, collaborate, and connect through the power of words.
Are you someone who loves to write stories, poetry, or even witty tweets? Or maybe you don’t see yourself as a writer yet, but have a spark of creativity you want to explore? The Creative Writing Society is open to all levels and styles of writing. We meet weekly to combine workshopping with socialising, creating an encouraging environment where members can share their work, receive constructive feedback, and grow their craft together.
Each session is designed to nurture creativity—whether it’s through individual projects or collaborative exercises that spark fresh ideas. Beyond writing, we foster a strong sense of community through social events that help members bond and have fun.
We also produce a student-run zine called Stargazer, which showcases a diverse range of creative work. Anyone can submit writings or artwork, and we welcome those interested in behind-the-scenes roles to help keep the zine thriving. Our society is always eager to welcome fresh voices and talents, so join us and be part of something creative and inspiring!
We typically meet on Thursday evenings from 6 pm to 8 pm. Our official taster session kicks off on Thursday, October 3rd, in the Student Life Building, room 204. Sessions after that will follow regularly throughout the academic year, balancing writing workshops with social events to keep the atmosphere relaxed and engaging.
To stay updated on meetings, events, and opportunities to contribute to Stargazer, follow our Instagram @ljmucreates or get in touch with us directly through university channels. Whether you want to write, illustrate, or get involved in editing, there’s a place for you here.
We’re a fun, laid-back group that doesn’t take ourselves too seriously—but we do take creativity seriously! If you want to meet people who are passionate about writing in all its forms and enjoy good laughs along the way, you’ll fit right in.
Joining the Creative Writing Society gives you a chance to develop your skills, share your work, and receive support in a friendly and constructive environment. Plus, our social events mean you’ll quickly get to know your fellow creatives, building friendships that can last beyond university.
Whether you’re here to hone your craft or just looking for a creative outlet and some good company, the Creative Writing Society offers a welcoming home for your words.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
