About Our Group

Cheerleading is a competitive and social team sport that incorporates different elements such as stunting, tumbling, jumps, and dance.

LJMU Jets is the Cheerleading Society at LJMU and has been running for many years. Our team currently consists of 4 teams: a level 2 competitive team, a pom (competitive dance) team, and a level 1 competitive team, and a sideline non-competitive team.  We are looking for both males and females to compete with us for the 2023/24 season or simply come along to learn the basics of cheerleading and have some fun!!

Our competitive teams usually compete in 2 national competitions per year against other teams across the country, including the University National Championships. Every year we are asked to perform at the Star Spirit Cheer and Dance Showcase in February. With the help of our coaches at Star Spirit Cheer and Dance, we were able to put out all of our teams involved and they get a chance to perform.

For the new year, we plan to have two competitive cheer teams with the chance to perform at showcase/performances across the year, as well as a competitive Pom team. We are a mixture of 1st, 2nd and 3rdyear students as well as students furthering their education with postgraduate courses. We encourage all abilities to come forward to join our squad. Although Cheerleading is a physically demanding sport, it is very enjoyable to take part as a team while building great friendships within the group.

Key Information (When, Where, and How Often We Meet)

Currently, both our Cheerleading teams have training every Sunday at Star Spirit Cheer and Dance training facility. Here we have access to state-of-the-art training facilities and coached by amazing fully-qualified coaches. These sessions are essential to the success of the team and therefore ask each team member to be committed to training.

Tumbling and stunting sessions for our cheerleading team take place on Wednesday afternoons at Star Spirit Cheer and Dance training facility. These sessions are also compulsory as it helps the team improve skills and progress to a higher level, holistically.

Our Pom Dance Team has moved back to Star Spirit Cheer and Dance, with a technique/choreography session on Friday evenings led by our pom coach.

Why Should You Join Us?

This year is going to be a very exciting year with a new board of committee members with great ideas for the team. We look forward to welcoming new members of all abilities as we continue to make JMSU Jets a successful and enjoyable society of LJMU.

Aside from the training aspect, we hold socials every week and our two new Social Sec’s have great surprises in store for the team this year for our nights out and other events – including exciting fundraising events to help the team.

We aim to be a fully inclusive team, welcoming all new members into the team, from the first training session and throughout the year. We encourage all current and new members to attend every training session to improve and be as successful as possible, as well as enjoying our team socials and events outside of training. We hope you have a great experience with our team!
