The Catholic Society (CathSoc) at LJMU is a vibrant and inclusive community open to all
students—whether you’re a lifelong Catholic, curious about Christianity, or simply looking for meaningful conversation and connection. We gather around faith, friendship, and fellowship to support one another throughout university life.
Liverpool CathSoc is more than just a society—it's a spiritual home for students past and present. Whether you're exploring faith for the first time, returning to the Church, or practicing your beliefs daily, you’ll find a supportive, welcoming space with us.
We gather regularly to grow in our faith through Mass, prayer, and reflection, but we also grow as people—through friendship, shared meals, service opportunities, and unforgettable socials. Expect everything from thought-provoking talks and student-led Bible studies to relaxed pub nights and retreats in the countryside.
We celebrate the richness and diversity of Catholic spirituality, embracing everyone from those who love quiet liturgical prayer to those who express their faith more charismatically. And you don't have to be Catholic—or even religious—to join in. Many of our friends come along simply because they enjoy what we do and the kindness of our community.
Above all, we are a society where everyone belongs, everyone is heard, and everyone is valued.
Our society meets regularly across the week with both faith-based and social events:
We are connected with other university chaplaincies and societies across Liverpool, so there are always opportunities for collaborative events and wider fellowship. The Chaplaincy team also hosts additional events throughout the term.
We believe in caring for the whole person—body, mind, and soul. That’s why we also support mental and physical wellbeing, offering a safe, confidential space for advice, encouragement, and community support.
Because university is more than just lectures and exams—it’s about finding people who lift you up and help you grow. At CathSoc, we strive to be that community for one another. Whether you're seeking deeper faith, spiritual companionship, or just new friends with shared values, we offer a space where you’ll be welcomed with open arms.
Our society is completely free to join, and every student is invited—regardless of background, belief, or experience. We understand that everyone is on their own journey, and we want to walk alongside you in whatever way we can. Whether it’s coming to Mass, joining a discussion, volunteering, or just showing up for a movie night—you are welcome here.
So come and see what we're about. Share stories, explore faith, and find joy in a community where you're never alone.
God bless, and we hope to meet you soon!
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
