The Biotech Society is a dynamic student community for anyone interested in biotechnology, life sciences, innovation, and the future of biological research. Whether you’re studying a STEM subject or simply fascinated by how biology and technology intersect, our society offers an exciting space to learn, explore, and connect.
We aim to bring students together through engaging academic and social activities that showcase the fast-growing world of biotechnology. Our society hosts guest lectures, lab skills workshops, industry networking sessions, journal clubs, film screenings, and collaborative projects with science-related societies. We welcome members from all backgrounds and levels of scientific knowledge, creating a supportive environment for curiosity, learning, and scientific discussion.
Membership is open to all students, including those outside the sciences who want to explore biotech in an accessible and engaging way. We run events throughout the academic year, supported by the Student Union and funded through membership fees and small grants. Activities include hands-on skill sessions, career talks from biotech professionals, debates on emerging technologies, and social meetups for anyone passionate about science. Event updates and opportunities are shared across our social media pages and mailing lists to keep members involved.
Joining the Biotech Society offers a chance to build your scientific knowledge, develop practical skills, and engage with some of the most exciting advancements shaping our future—from genetic engineering and CRISPR to biomanufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and bioethics. You’ll meet like-minded students, gain insights into career paths, and take part in fun, inspiring events that help you grow academically and socially.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
