The Biochemistry Society is a student community for those interested in the chemistry of life, exploring how biological systems function at a molecular level. Whether you study biochemistry or are simply curious about the science behind living organisms, our society offers an engaging space to learn and connect.
We bring together students with a shared interest in biochemistry through a range of academic, social, and career-focused activities. Our society hosts revision sessions, guest lectures, lab skills workshops, research talks, and collaborative events with other science societies. We aim to support students in their studies while also introducing them to current developments in areas such as molecular biology, metabolism, drug discovery, and biotechnology.
Membership is open to all students, regardless of course or level of study. We run events throughout the academic year with support from the Student Union and funding from membership fees and grants. Activities include academic support sessions, career panels, networking opportunities with industry professionals, and informal socials to help members build connections. Updates and opportunities are shared through social media and mailing lists.
Joining the Biochemistry Society provides the opportunity to deepen your understanding of the subject, develop practical and analytical skills, and explore potential career paths in research, healthcare, and industry. It’s also a great way to meet like-minded students, gain academic support, and be part of a friendly and motivated scientific community.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
