Basketball is a dynamic, fast-moving sport that combines skill, teamwork, and athleticism. Played with five players on each team, the goal is to dribble, pass, and shoot the ball into the hoop to score points. With its quick transitions, high-energy plays, and constant action, basketball is as thrilling to play as it is to watch.
Our Men's Basketball group is open to all abilities — whether you’ve been playing for years or are picking up a ball for the first time. It’s a fantastic way to stay fit, sharpen your coordination, and be part of a passionate and welcoming team. We train consistently, take part in competitive student leagues, and have a strong social scene off the court too!
Get involved — it’s not just about the game, it’s about the team behind it.
LJMU Men’s Basketball welcomes both experienced players and newcomers, encouraging everyone to try one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK. With three competitive teams, we provide opportunities for all skill levels. Our first and second teams aim for promotion in the upcoming season, while our third team focuses on developing new players and fostering a strong club community.
Training sessions are held at the LJMU Sports Centre. The first team trains on Mondays from 9:00-10:30 PM, the second team on Fridays from 6:30-8:00 PM, and the third team on Saturdays from 6:30-8:00 PM. All teams train together on Monday mornings from 7:15-8:45 AM. Wednesdays are game days, with fixtures taking place at various times and locations.
Joining LJMU Men’s Basketball means becoming part of a highly respected and successful team. Players train and compete at a high level, with some teammates playing internationally. You’ll have access to quality coaching to refine your skills while enjoying a strong social culture within the club and across LJMU societies. University is about more than just academics—our club offers an incredible way to meet new people, have fun, and fully embrace the social side of student life.
Each sports club is led by a student committee responsible for running the club, organising activities, and representing members. The committee is chaired by the Club Captain, with support from other elected roles.
