Welcome to the LJMU Bar Society- a vibrant, student-led community for aspiring barristers, solicitors, and anyone with a passion for advocacy and the law. We aim to bridge the gap between academic study and the practical skills needed for a successful legal career.
Through workshops, moots, guest speaker events, and networking opportunities, we provide our members with the knowledge, experience, and confidence to thrive in the legal profession. We also host wellbeing-focused events to support our members’ mental health and work–life balance, because we believe that personal wellbeing is just as important as professional success.
Alongside skill-building, we explore what life at the Bar is really like — from chambers culture to career pathways — helping our members make informed decisions about their future. Whether you’re a law student, a non-law student curious about the Bar, or someone who simply enjoys debate and public speaking, the Bar Society is the place to develop your skills, expand your professional network, and join a supportive group of like-minded individuals.
Stay up to date with the LJMU Bar Society by following our Instagram “@ljmubarsociety”, where we share information on our upcoming events! Whether you want to attend academic and career focused events or social activities, our social media channel will keep you informed!
The LJMU Bar Society isn’t just another student group — it’s your gateway to the world of advocacy, law, and life at the Bar. We give you hands-on opportunities to develop essential skills like public speaking, legal research, and persuasive argumentation, all in a friendly, supportive environment.
You’ll meet inspiring guest speakers, gain insider knowledge about career pathways, and build connections with professionals and fellow students who share your passion. We also value wellbeing, hosting events to help you balance study, work, and life. Whether you’re aiming for the Inns of Court or simply want to boost your confidence and network, joining the Bar Society puts you one step ahead.
Each society is led by a student committee responsible for running the society, organising activities, and representing its members. The committee is chaired by the Society President, with support from other elected roles.
